THIS COURSE SATISFIES THE OPIOID CE REQUIREMENT

The opioid epidemic has impacted the lives of many. Women, however, encounter many obstacles in treatment. This course provides an overview of DSM criteria for Opioid Use Disorders from a trauma-informed perspective. Participants will explore the unique needs of women and pregnant women seeking treatment. A discussion of P/ACEs serves to highlight treatment implications. Course concludes with interventions that address barriers to treatment and relapse prevention to support women in the recovery process.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the connection between trauma and OUDs.
  • Summarize treatment strategies to engage pregnant women in treatment.
  • Discuss diversion and implications for relapse prevention.

Ana Guerra, LCSW, LPC, LCADC, CCS
Ms. Guerra, is a seasoned mental health professional with extensive experience in mental health and substance use disorders. She specializes in the treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders and Trauma. Ms. Guerra parlayed her clinical experience into a career as an adjunct/faculty member for various colleges and universities in NJ. She proposed, developed the curriculum and taught the Substance Use Disorder courses at Kean University’s Social Work Department. Ms. Guerra teaches across the Bachelor and Master level curriculum in Social Work and Addiction Studies including courses such as “Trauma” and “Psychopathology”. Ms. Guerra is approved by the Addiction Professionals Certification Board of NJ (APCBNJ) to teach initial and re-certification L/CADC courses. As a trainer for New Jersey Prevention Network, she served as an integral team member revising the CADC curriculum. Ms. Guerra facilitates training and consultation for various mental health, substance use and academic settings. She maintains a private practice and is also a Clinical Supervisor for a residential and outpatient treatment facility. In 2019, Ms. Guerra was selected by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) to participate in the development of the CSWE’s Substance Use Curricular Guide which was published in 2020. Ms. Guerra is approved by the APCBNJ as well as the NJ Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee as a Mandatory Legal Class Trainer.
